Emily Drouin is a professional illustrator, comic book artist, caricaturist, storyboard artist, author, and kids con director from Manchester, NH. Her art style is bold, vibrant, and fun, and is applied mostly to her Eplis comic. She is also, with the help of co-writer and husband Jeremy Drouin, a force of comics goodness, as she manages kids’ comic areas at conventions, libraries, and schools.
Drouin recently appeared at the Maine Comics Arts Festival in Portland, ME, where she taught a how-to-draw monsters workshop, as well ran the kids activities area with mask making, comics, free coloring pages, and taught cartooning to the kids. She thrilled kids with Mark Mariano and Alex Simmons in conjunction with the East Coast Comic-Con. And she’s just getting started, with eight more appearances throughout the summer and into fall, including stops at Massive Comic Con and Kids Con, Granite State Comic Con & Kids Zone, and Vermont Comic Con & Kids Con. She’s even planning her own kid-friendly comics show for next year: Kids Con New England, taking place in New Hampshire.
And what about the comic? EPLIS is a sci-fi action adventure comic that takes our characters through space and time to achieve their ultimate goal, defeat the Krios. As a nearly unstoppable force, the Krios are energy based lifeforms that move between star systems, devouring everything that stands in their path. Ever on the search for their next meal, all attempts to stop them have been met with failure as they simply deflect or absorb all known methods of force.
Emily’s characters are easy to fall in love with; the plush-like look helps her sell the emotive qualities well for kids. The artwork inspires a sense of whimsy, and though our protagonists are spending lots of time trying not to be eaten, the fun and friendly designs work to keep from overloading on the dire consequences. There’s no panel I’ve found that you couldn’t remove the lettering from and not have an idea of what’s going on. The fact that the words on the page sell such a concise and wonderful story just shows how well this team works together.
Dr. Archimedes may hold the key to ending the Krios’s free reign once and for all. After careful study of a mysterious crystal called the Elestrial Segment, the Doctor learns to tap into its astounding properties with his greatest scientific achievement yet… The EPLIS.
The EPLIS, however, is not yet complete when the Krios arrive at the Dr’s home planet, Geminon. Will they discover the EPLIS? Will the Doctor and his companions escape? Can the Krios even be defeated?!
